Editorial Review
St Jerome's Laneway Festival is back for 2009; bigger and better and with more laneway space than ever before. Not only is the festival now making its way around the country (with Perth added to the schedule), the original Melbourne location has been expanded. Still, at the end of the day it's all about the music. And the bands. And the bands with beards. Laneway has plenty of those. Headlining stages across the country are Stereolab, Girl Talk, Cut Off Your Hands and The Hold Steady. They're the icing on a particularly delicious indie cake.
Stereolab released Chemical Chords, their ninth studio album, earlier this year. A welcome return to form, it found the band back in lounge/pop music territory. Neon Beanbag, the first single, was vintage Stereolab, and the guys are currently travelling the world off the back of the release.
As for Girl Talk, Cut Off Your hands the rest, well, you'd be no doubt already aware of them if you're even considering attending the Laneway Festival. The US indie scene isn't actually that big and there's about two degrees of separation between any given acts. Regardless, there's a wealth of talent on offer at Laneway Festival. Not to mention, all the indie cinema, art installations, tenpin bowling, boutique fashion markets and cocktail bars you can handle.
