Editorial Review
Sunbar is located in the refurbished previous headquarters of the Daily Sun Newspaper. The renovations were so complete that there remains not an inkling (excuse the pun) that it used to be a pressroom. Instead the owners have taken the Sun theme and hit the ground running. Bright oranges and vivid colours make a backdrop against chic Aztec inspired designs, and orb like lighting gets you in the mood to knock back a few tequila sunrises.
Sunbar mixes a bit of everything together: a lounge bar with tapas-style meals and pizzas, a function venue that offers a range of funky cocktail-style spaces, and a formal dining room. The a la carte menu offers some inspiring and creative choices that borrow techniques from around the globe. Tunisian white rabbit brik with fig Muscat jus competes with the Cassia-spiced soft shell crab with pickled green papaya salad for attention. Cuban smoked venison with grilled kaisler, candied red cabbage, quandong jam and blueberry jus stands out among the mains. For dessert leave space for an Australian cheese platter or a Baileys creme brulee.
